Some things about me

Born in Detroit and raised on Cape Cod, I’ve at various times been a literary journal editor, a mediocre philosophy student, and eventually a somewhat better wildlife biologist. For several years I worked in tropical Africa as an evolutionary biologist studying lizards and birds, living in remote villages, eating oversized rodents, getting my ass kicked by malaria, and getting into the occasional screaming match with drunk, well-armed gendarmes. As a result of having survived these perhaps less than stellar life choices, I wound up with a Ph.D in biology from UCLA. These days, I write code and crunch data to answer various evolutionary and statistical questions, and to help figure out how to best conserve biodiversity.

I released my only full length recording, “Best Laid Plans (Gone Wrong)” in 2007 while living in Los Angeles, as a charity case of a masterful engineer and producer, Jason Merritt, who also corralled amazing people I couldn’t afford, to play parts for so little money I am almost embarrassed to admit it.

I currently live in central Massachusetts where I am the owner of a small farm that includes an unreasonable number of chickens, and two coonhounds who eye them hungrily through the fence. I’ve been laying low and not playing live for some time, but after recently writing a handful of new songs, I decided it was time to come out of hiding.
